What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is not a traditional martial art—it's a modern, practical, and highly effective self-defense system. Developed for the Israeli military, Krav Maga focuses on real-world situations and teaches you to defend against common attacks and threats. The core philosophy is simple: neutralize the threat as quickly and safely as possible. It's an intuitive system built on your body's natural reflexes, making it easy to learn and apply under stress.

Our Approach at Armored Krav Maga

At Armored Krav Maga, we prepare you for the unexpected. Our training is designed to give you the skills and confidence to handle real-life situations. We don't just teach techniques; we teach you how to survive.
Our curriculum focuses on defending against the most common attacks you might face, including:
-
Physical assaults: Punches, kicks, chokes, and grabs.
-
Threats with weapons: Defenses against knives, guns, and blunt objects like bats and sticks.
Beyond physical techniques, we emphasize de-escalation tactics and situational awareness to help you avoid conflict altogether. We also incorporate intense physical conditioning, strength training, and endurance drills to ensure you have the stamina to escape a dangerous situation.
A unique and crucial part of our training is our stress drills. By simulating the chaos and pressure of a real attack, these drills help you build on your natural reflexes and flinch responses. This training is critical for developing the ability to react effectively under pressure and increasing your chances of making it home safely.
As you advance, you'll have the opportunity to participate in sparring. Sparring is a controlled, safe environment for you to test your skills, improve your conditioning, and build unshakable confidence. It's an invaluable step in turning techniques into a second nature.
Join the Armored Krav Maga family and become part of a community dedicated to self-improvement and personal safety. We provide a supportive environment where you can learn, grow, and empower yourself.

The History of Krav Maga

The story of Krav Maga begins with its founder, Imi Lichtenfeld. Born in Budapest in 1910, Imi grew up in Bratislava, Slovakia, where he became an accomplished boxer, wrestler, and gymnast. In the 1930s, as anti-Semitic violence rose, Imi used his skills to protect his Jewish community from fascist gangs. He quickly realized that sport-based fighting was ineffective in brutal, real-world street fights, so he began developing a new, practical system.
After immigrating to what was then British-controlled Palestine in the 1940s, Imi's fighting expertise was recognized by military leaders. He began training elite Jewish paramilitary forces. When the State of Israel was founded in 1948, Imi was appointed Chief Instructor of Physical Fitness and Krav Maga for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He spent nearly 20 years refining and formalizing the system to be easily and quickly learned by conscripts of varying fitness levels.
Upon his retirement from the IDF in 1964, Imi adapted Krav Maga for civilian use, making it available to everyone who wanted to learn self-defense. Today, Krav Maga continues to evolve and is used by military and law enforcement agencies worldwide, in addition to being a globally recognized and respected civilian self-defense system.
